About the role
The primary focus of this position is to assist customers with produce questions and special orders. The role also involves replenishing and rotating displays, trimming, washing, bundling produce, disposing of damaged or spoiled goods, cleaning cases, and maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers with produce questions and special orders.
- Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation in a friendly, courteous manner.
- Replenish and rotate displays, culling several times daily, and following stocking priorities set by the produce manager.
- Trim, wash, bundle produce, following priorities set by the produce manager.
- Dispose of damaged or spoiled goods promptly, with appropriate notification to the produce manager.
- Remove trash, clean cases, and keep prep and storage areas in clean, orderly condition.
- Use equipment safely. Monitor cooler and walk-in temperatures and follow procedures for handling breakdowns. Advise the produce manager of equipment repair and replacement needs.
- Check deliveries for damage, quality, and accuracy, notify the produce manager of discrepancies, and help with unloading as needed.
- Maintain floor plan and regular rotation in the walk-in cooler.
- Participate in periodic inventory.
- Follow safe working practices.
- Attend department and storewide meetings.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the produce manager.
Requirements
- Physical Abilities:
- Ability to read product labels and distinguish color for quality control.
- Hearing required to converse with customers and co-workers.
- Sense of smell for inspecting product and sanitation standards.
- Gripping ability to pick up boxes, cans, other products, tools, and equipment.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Squatting and maneuvering to pick up boxes from shelving and carts.
- Pushing/pulling carts/racks weighing up to 500 pounds.
- Kneeling occasionally.
- Climbing occasionally.
- Bending frequently.
- Reaching overhead, front, side, and back.
- Ability to operate equipment safely.
- Carrying objects weighing up to 65 pounds.

- Walking short distances to bring items from miscellaneous areas.

Qualifications
- Education/Training: High School education or GED preferred, but not required.
- Experience: Familiarity with natural foods preferred.
- Knowledge/Skills: Ability to follow instructions well.
- Attendance: Regular, predictable attendance.
- Other: Ability to work closely with others. Familiarity with, or interest in, produce. Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment (knives).
