About the role
Weavers Way is a not-for-profit, member-owned co-op operating on a triple bottom line philosophy of People-Planet-Profit. As a Produce Buyer at our Chestnut Hill location, you will help fulfill the mission of supporting local vendors and strengthening the community while contributing to sustainable practices.
Responsibilities
- Purchase products accurately according to customer preferences and availability, including regular review of standing orders.
- Stay current with industry trends by researching suppliers and new products.
- Arrange product demos and samples with suppliers.
- Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery.
- Receive departmental deliveries, ensuring order accuracy and quality before acceptance.
- Coordinate returns and monitor supplier credits where applicable.
- Review invoices for accuracy.
- Coordinate purchasing with the Produce Manager.
- Assist customers with special orders and pre-orders as needed.
- Merchandise and market products, including promotions, coordinating discounts with other departments, and advertising in The Shuttle.
- Ensure all product labels are accurate, complete, current, and include a full ingredient list.
- Provide product information for customers and staff.
- Respond quickly and courteously to customer requests and complaints to ensure satisfaction.
- Discuss and encourage membership with prospective members.
Requirements

- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and remain calm under stress.
- Proven ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment when necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
- Ability to keep detailed and clear records, develop, and follow standard procedures.
- Basic knowledge of produce and merchandising.
- Be, or become upon hiring, a member in good standing of Weavers Way Co-op.
Pay
$17.50 per hour
Schedule
Full-time, non-exempt position working an estimated 30–34 hours per week. Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday.
