About the role

The incumbent serves as a Reader Registration Assistant on the Reader Registration Team of the Access Services Section in the Researcher Engagement and General Collections Division. All researchers conducting research at the Library of Congress must first obtain a Library-issued Reader Card at the Reader Registration Stations. The incumbent performs the full range of duties necessary to operate the Stations and to assist researchers.

Responsibilities

• Process applications for Library of Congress Reader Identification Cards, including verifying researcher identity and eligibility.
• Explain Library policies, procedures, and services to researchers at the point of registration.
• Operate and troubleshoot the automated registration system and related equipment.
• Assist researchers with questions regarding access to reading rooms, collections, and Library facilities.
• Maintain accurate records of registrations and provide statistical reports as required.
• Coordinate with other Library units to resolve registration issues and ensure smooth researcher access.
