Procurement Engineer

Allied Power, Inc. is seeking a Procurement Engineer to support sourcing and procurement activities across project lifecycles.

About the role

The Procurement Engineer evaluates vendor capabilities, interprets fabrication drawings, and coordinates procurement activities from proposal development through fabrication. This role acts as a central point of contact for technical and commercial requirements, ensuring accurate sourcing, cost estimation, and resolution of non-conforming components.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate production capacity, process capabilities, and technical strengths of domestic and international vendors within an approved supply chain.
• Interpret fabrication drawings, including tolerances, materials, and manufacturing processes, to collect accurate pricing and lead-time quotes for custom components.
• Answer technical questions related to quoting or fabrication and select vendors based on demonstrated capability and project requirements.
• Interface with Project Coordinators on procurement-heavy projects and track procurement status across project timelines.
• Coordinate resolution of non-conforming components across departments (Procurement, Quality, Project Management) and provide technical dispositions to external vendors.
• Participate in design meetings to provide input on manufacturability, material selection, availability, and cost trade-offs.
• Develop and review engineering specifications and purchasing documentation for accuracy and manufacturability.
• Perform receipt inspections for custom-fabricated components as needed.
• Support internal business initiatives aligned with company and project needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent engineering/manufacturing experience.
• Working technical knowledge of fabrication and manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, welding, casting, forming), including capabilities, tolerances, and costs.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering fabrication and assembly drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical and commercial requirements to manufacturers.
• Strong organizational skills to prioritize multiple procurement tasks according to project timelines.
