Process Technician, 3rd Shift

About the role

The Process Technician is responsible for aseptically processing human cells, tissues, and cellular and tissue-based products for transplant in a controlled and regulated medical device environment. This position requires working with potential biologic hazardous tissue/waste, maintaining an ISO-certified cleanroom, and operating in a 24/7 environment. The role may require mandatory overtime, including weekends and holidays.

Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM

Pay

$27.03 - $31.45 per hour

Responsibilities

• Read, comprehend, and adhere to all appropriate standard operating procedures.
• Demonstrate competency in standard processes as outlined in the new hire checklist.
• Understand donor verification, check-in, and check-out processes (Edison only).
• Gain technical and tissue product knowledge through classroom training, hands-on experience, and LMS (Learning Management System), maintaining greater than a 90% completion rate for LMS training.
• Prepare safe, quality tissue while maintaining aseptic technique.
• Achieve proficiency and certification on 10% of the processes (Edison only). For Pennsylvania technicians, refer to the Tech Level Guidance document.
• Assist the processing team during semiannual and quarterly shutdowns, including CORE breakdown, loading, and unloading.
• Wear appropriate attire and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Verify the sterility of supplies and equipment before use.
• Accurately complete written documentation of processing activities on controlled forms.
• Read digital timers, clocks, and measuring instruments (e.g., ruler, micrometer, caliper, graduated cylinders) and convert standard time to military time.
• Use caution when working with sharps and cutting equipment, following all necessary procedures.
• Measure, label, and package tissue accurately according to standard operating procedures.
• Prepare tissue and environmental samples for testing as requested.
• Follow work orders or Planning unit goals to maximize human tissue for transplant.
• Perform line clearance accounting of materials and quality inspection reviews of processed tissue and paperwork.
• Dispose of waste in appropriate biological hazardous waste containers, label, and document according to procedure.
• Retrieve tissue from designated locations and complete necessary log documentation for traceability.
• Process one donor at a time in a designated location, complete cleaning processes, and document or enter data for the environment.
• Work on multiple processes simultaneously in separate locations while maintaining aseptic technique.
• Transfer tissue to freezers for storage and complete necessary documentation.
• Prepare chemicals in appropriate ratios for processing and cleaning solutions.
• Clean and sanitize cleanrooms and equipment using chemicals such as peracetic acid and ethanol to maintain a sterile environment.
• Ensure supplies are used in a FIFO (first in, first out) order and appropriately stocked.
• Perform quality and safety observations as assigned.
• Enroll in and complete Learning & Development classes in the Service Excellence Certification Program, including Business Etiquette and Effective Listening Skills.
• Collaborate with support departments such as Process Engineering, Planning, Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance, Facilities, Supply Chain, and others as necessary.
• Take responsibility for professional development and attend internal and external training as assigned.
• Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Ability to accurately add, subtract, measure, and calculate ratios for liquids and powders.
