About the role

This role leads Process Safety and Process Risk Management across OxyChem manufacturing sites, ensuring the protection of employees, the environment, customers, and surrounding communities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products as our highest priority.
  • Establish, develop, and implement the Process Safety Management, Risk Management Plan and Responsible Care, collectively referred to as “PSM” programs for OxyChem Manufacturing Sites.
  • Manage comprehensive Process Risk capital project reviews from conceptual design through equipment commissioning on projects involving process safety, risk engineering, fire protection systems, hazard management, and critical process related equipment.
  • Function as an OxyChem Process Risk technical expert for the OxyChem Manufacturing Sites in the design, operation, repair, and maintenance of critical process related equipment to assure accordance with applicable codes and standards, regulatory requirements, and suitability for service.
  • Assist OxyChem Manufacturing Sites by conducting Process Risk training on subjects such as; process hazard analysis, facility siting, incident investigation, management of change, mechanical integrity, and fixed fire protection inspection, testing, and design.
  • Assist OxyChem Manufacturing Site’s Process Risk Engineers by leading in-depth Process Risk studies and assessments including Process Risk facility reviews, PHAs, Facility Siting Studies, Human Factor, Inherently Safer Process Review, Risk Register, Risk Matrix, and critical process related equipment reviews.
  • Work with other functional personnel within the HES&S Department & support the annual department budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. Other engineering disciplines will be considered based upon relevant experience.
  • 10 years of plant process, maintenance, or project engineering work to effectively interact with plant management, including Safety, Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering.
  • In depth knowledge of OSHA, RMP, Responsible Care, and other industry standards relating to process safety management.
  • Organized, analytical, and outcome-focused, comfortable managing complex projects.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% required.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent facilitation and interpersonal skills, able to work with both executives and technical teams.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.

Qualifications

  • Specialized training in National Consensus Standards and experience in fire protection, loss prevention, risk analysis, process safety systems, and critical process related equipment strongly preferred.
  • Experience in hazard analysis (Hazop, Hazid, LOPA), consequence modeling, and risk analysis preferred.
