About the role

The PSM Specialist is a hands-on leader focused on process safety management, risk mitigation, and ensuring compliance with air, water, and remediation requirements. This role drives Halocarbon’s safety, environmental, PSM, and security management systems in alignment with company vision and strategy, fostering a culture of zero injuries, illnesses, or environmental impacts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Halocarbon’s PSM program to ensure regulatory compliance and effective management of process safety risks.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS and PSM management systems.
  • Partner with process engineers to create and maintain effective operating procedures.
  • Lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and ensure process safety information remains accurate and current.
  • Champion design reviews and lead Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs).
  • Ensure effective operational training and compliance with applicable Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP).
  • Conduct PSM compliance audits and promote employee involvement in PSM activities.
  • Lead Management of Change (MOC) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) processes.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and review EHS and PSM leading and lagging indicators.
  • Lead, participate in, and review incident investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Serve as the company expert in flammable liquids handling, HF handling, combustible dust, compressed air safety, and other identified processes.
  • Develop and maintain management systems for high-risk areas.
  • Lead, document, and coordinate Halocarbon’s aspect/exposure/risk profile.
  • Maintain the Halocarbon security vulnerability assessment.
  • Provide training to employees on applicable EHS/PSM topics.
  • Act as the company representative in community organizations, industry groups, and regulatory audits/inspections.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours emergency response assistance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, process safety engineering, or a combination of PSM-related experience and technical background (preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Process Safety Professional (CCPSC) certification is a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in chemical manufacturing/handling (preferred).
  • Experience leading or participating in process hazard analysis (preferred).
  • Ability to interpret and apply RAGAGEPs such as SC Fire Code, API, ANSI, NFPA, CCPS, and CFRs.
  • Demonstrated track record in change leadership, risk assessment/management, and maintaining EHS/PSM management systems.

Safety/Essential Functions

  • Must be able to climb and descend stairs and ladders.

  • Able to work in environments with chemical odors at permissible exposure limits.
  • Must be able to evacuate the plant and report to muster points during emergencies or drills.
  • Able to sit and use a computer for extended periods.
