Process Operator, Battery Materials – 2nd & 3rd Shift Premiums Billerica, MA
About the role
Cabot Corporation is seeking Process Operators to join the Battery Materials team at its primary CNS production and R&D facility in Billerica, MA. These roles involve running chemical process systems and related equipment, adjusting controls to regulate variables, conducting in-process quality control testing, and performing minor maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Controls chemical process and operates all related equipment using the distributed control system (LabView).
- Follows work instructions (WI), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Product Quality Control Plans (PQCP).
- Adjusts controls to regulate variables as per instructions.
- Performs set up procedures to prepare systems for operation.
- May support in troubleshooting the process to maintain required operating conditions.
- Conducts in process Quality Control testing.
- Performs minor maintenance on process and support equipment.
- May use business management system to enter work orders and requisitions.
- Transfers and moves materials, sometimes heavy items.
- Assists in packaging product for shipment and in loading/unloading product or raw materials.
- Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements.
- Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001® technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.
Requirements
- High School diploma, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of chemical operation experience is required.
- Manufacturing certification a plus.
- Manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to details.
- General mechanical aptitude.
- Able to read and interpret complex operating instructions.
- Basic knowledge of shop mathematics in order to interpret quality control results.
- High level of safety awareness and attention to details.
- Written, verbal communication and active listening skills.
- Capacity to cross-train with other operating units.
- Able to work collaboratively with others in a team-based environment.
- Organizational and record keeping skills.
- Familiarity with computers as a user.
- Flexibility in performing changing assignments and work schedules.
- Will be required to work off-shift hours.
- Ability to lift 50lbs and use material handling equipment.
- Able to remain calm and react effectively in critical situations.

Pay
The pay for this role is $22.84-$31.40 an hour during the training period. When the assigned shifts start, shift differentials begin: 2nd Shift: +$1.25 and 3rd Shift: +$2.25. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skill, qualifications, and experience. In addition, all positions are eligible for health benefits on the first day of employment, 401K savings plans, vision, dental and annual bonus based on company performance.
Schedule
- 2nd Shift: Operational hours 2PM – 11PM (Shift Differential +$1.25)
- 3rd Shift: Operational hours 10PM – 7AM (Shift Differential +$2.25)
