Process Operator 1

Responsibilities

• Operate computer-controlled process equipment, cookers, and machinery.
• Evaluate process problems and perform product quality testing.
• Oversee rendering process from raw material bin to finished goods storage.
• Maintain steady flow of material to cooker and monitor cooker temperature, rate, and steam.
• Monitor evaporation rate to maintain required rate per hour.
• Control flow of material to presses and to finished goods storage.
• Monitor control panel and various gauges to ensure proper process operation.
• Operate pollution control systems, including air/odor control and wastewater control.
• Responsible for boiler start-up and operation.
• Perform periodic preventative maintenance on all process equipment.
• Monitor machinery and report problems to management.
• Ensure equipment and work area are clean after each shift.
• Maintain safety as a top priority in accordance with company safety rules and regulations.
• Participate in the company’s food safety program as trained.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Manufacturing, industrial, or agricultural experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in a rendering facility or production environment.
• Knowledge of mechanical rendering and/or process equipment.
• Good mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting skills; skilled in general mechanics and safe operation of equipment.
• Ability to address minor equipment or situational problems.
• Ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
