Process Mechanical Engineer
About the role
As our Missouri Process Mechanical Lead Engineer, you’ll be charged with planning, preliminary, and detailed design of water and wastewater pumping stations and treatment plants across Missouri and the region. This includes specifications and plan development associated with pumping stations and treatment plant upgrades and expansions.
You will prepare general arrangement drawings for treatment equipment and tanks, design piping and pumping systems, and provide oversight of construction. You’ll evaluate and select equipment, piping materials, and valves, assist with facility layouts, develop calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and construction documents. Additionally, you’ll coordinate with other project disciplines, direct the work of CAD designers, and produce construction documents.
Using your leadership skills, you’ll serve as the Process Mechanical Discipline Lead on projects, overseeing process mechanical teams and providing overall leadership. This role will also serve as the point of contact for our process mechanical practice, collaborating within the community of practice, setting standards and best practices, and mentoring and growing our team.

Responsibilities
- Plan, preliminary, and detailed design of water and wastewater pumping stations and treatment plants
- Develop specifications and plans for upgrades and expansions
- Prepare general arrangement drawings for treatment equipment and tanks
- Design piping and pumping systems
- Provide construction oversight
- Evaluate and select equipment, piping materials, and valves
- Assist with facility layouts
- Develop calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and construction documents
- Coordinate with other project disciplines

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, or similar from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in process mechanical design of water and wastewater systems
- Active professional engineering (PE) license with ability to obtain Missouri license within 6 months
- Experience and familiarity with National Building Codes, EPA regulations, and 10 States Standards
- Strong teamwork skills, including giving and receiving critical feedback
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working and managing remote domestic and international staff
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years’ experience in industrial, water, or wastewater process mechanical engineering
- Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software such as Pipe-Flo
- Experience developing process flow diagrams to define mass balance
- Participation in planning, cost development and management, and scheduling for assigned projects
- Experience working with construction management staff to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and standards
- Experience during construction including installation, startup, and/or troubleshooting
- Proficiency in Autodesk design suite

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $105,000.00 to $145,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Schedule
Hybrid working policy allowing employees to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations.
