Process Mechanical Engineer

About the role

As the Process Mechanical Lead Engineer in Missouri, you’ll plan, perform preliminary, and detailed design of water and wastewater pumping stations and treatment plants across Missouri and the region. Responsibilities include specifications and plan development for pumping stations and treatment plant upgrades and expansions, preparing general arrangement drawings for treatment equipment and tanks, designing piping and pumping systems, and providing construction oversight.

You’ll evaluate and select equipment, piping materials, and valves; assist with facility layouts; develop calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and construction documents; and coordinate with other project disciplines. This role also involves directing CAD designers, producing construction documents, and serving as the Process Mechanical Discipline Lead on projects, overseeing process mechanical teams and providing overall leadership.

Additionally, you’ll collaborate within the community of practice, set standards and best practices for the region, and mentor and grow the team. You’ll have opportunities to work across Jacobs’ core water technical areas: Drinking Water & Reuse, Municipal Wastewater, Distribution and Conveyance, Water Resources, and Industrial Water.

Responsibilities

• Prepare general arrangement drawings for treatment equipment and tanks.
• Design piping and pumping systems and provide construction oversight.
• Evaluate and select equipment, piping materials, and valves.
• Assist with facility layouts and develop calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and construction documents.
• Coordinate with other project disciplines and direct the work of CAD designers.
• Serve as the Process Mechanical Discipline Lead on projects, overseeing process mechanical teams and providing leadership.
• Collaborate within the community of practice, set regional standards and best practices, and mentor team members.
• Work across Jacobs’ core water technical areas: Drinking Water & Reuse, Municipal Wastewater, Distribution and Conveyance, Water Resources, and Industrial Water.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar degree from an accredited university or college.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in process mechanical design of water and wastewater systems.
• Active professional engineering (PE) license with the ability to obtain a Missouri license within 6 months.
• Experience and familiarity with National Building Codes, EPA regulations, and 10 States Standards.
• Strong teamwork skills, including giving and receiving critical feedback.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working with and managing remote domestic and international staff.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience in industrial, water, or wastewater process mechanical engineering.
• Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software such as Pipe-Flo.
• Experience developing process flow diagrams to define mass balance.
• Participation in planning, cost development and management, and scheduling for assigned projects.
• Experience working with construction management staff to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, standards, and client requirements.
• Experience during construction, including installation, startup, and/or troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in Autodesk design suite.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $105,000.00 to $145,000.00. Individual pay within this range is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Jacobs offers a hybrid working policy, allowing employees to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations to deliver their best work.
