Process Mechanic-Tube Bender

About the role

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) in St. Louis, MO is seeking Process Mechanics specializing in tube bending. This role may also involve sheet metal fabrication, spray painting, welding, chemical processing, plating, and hand/machine sewing within a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate power-operated NC-controlled tube benders.
• Perform inspections, pressure testing, cleaning (vapor degrease), swaging, squaring, burring, marking, finish trimming, cutting, identifying, masking, capping, preserving, and applying color identification.
• Install various types of fittings, including Wiggins, Dynatube, DME, Gamah, Ringlok, Perma Swage, Cryofit, Sierracin Harrison, and AN.
• Execute end form operations such as sizing, veiling, beading, shrinking, saddling, flaring, expanding, and reducing.
• Route and trial-fit tubes on aircraft and mock-ups to determine size and shape.
• Read and work from blueprints, visual aids, work instructions, and process specifications.
• Use hand tools, power tools, equipment, and measuring instruments, including tube benders, coordinate measuring machines, band saws, manual benders, swaging machines, pressure test benches, vapor degreasers, micrometers, protractors, and calipers.
• Participate in team-based decisions, including managing daily work schedules, committing to team goals and metrics (cost, quality, schedule, safety), coordinating communication, and initiating process improvements.
• Composite fabrication, layup, drilling, and repair.
• Assemble precision assemblies, set up and operate ream fixtures for drilling, reaming, countersinking, spot-facing, honing, and boring.
• Assemble prototype assemblies with minimal engineering guidance.
• Perform engineering tests of production parts and equipment in collaboration with mechanical design, industrial engineering, and production operations.
• Partner with design to modify, fabricate tools, parts, and build prototype tooling; inspect tools for repair.
• Develop, prepare, and maintain documentation related to design, fabrication, and manufacturing of engineering test and production tooling, equipment, and calibration.
• Bench-assemble electrical or electronic components into assemblies and systems before methods are established.
• Machine new and replacement parts for precision-built tools and machine parts.
• Apply painting, fill/fairing, and special coatings.
• Travel up to 10% of the time.

Requirements

• Experience with tubing and ducting manufacturing, installation, or maintenance.
• 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with detailed work instructions or reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings.
• Experience operating a CNC machine (e.g., CNC rivet machine, CNC milling machine).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Information

This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement. New hires and employees transferring from non-union positions may be required to complete training and a 120-calendar-day probationary period. The selected candidate must be able to work any assigned shift. Relocation assistance is not provided, and candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Pay

Pay range: $22.00–$25.00 per hour, based on candidate experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations.
