About the role
Lead all process engineering activities across the aluminum extrusion manufacturing operation, driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, productivity, yield, energy efficiency, and cost through process optimization, technology implementation, and engineering excellence. This role provides technical leadership for extrusion, anodizing, fabrication, finishing, and material flow, partnering closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Commercial, and Product Engineering to achieve business objectives. The Process Engineering Manager also develops and leads a team of process engineers and technicians, establishing best practices, standardized processes, and data-driven decision making throughout the facility.
Responsibilities
- Lead process engineering across billet preheating, extrusion, anodizing, fabrication, and finishing, shaping how we make product every day.
- Optimize extrusion parameters (billet temp, ram speed, die temp, quench performance) to boost productivity and quality.
- Drive OEE, throughput, recovery, and first-pass yield, using Lean and Six Sigma to knock down bottlenecks.
- Lead Kaizen events and continuous improvement projects that move the needle on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Partner with Product Engineering and Sales on new profiles, alloys, and fabrication methods from concept to launch.
- Build, coach, and grow a team of Process Engineers and Continuous Improvement Specialists.
- Champion MES, data acquisition, and digital process monitoring to modernize how we track performance.
- Team up with Quality to cut scrap and warranty issues, leading root cause problem-solving (DMAIC, A3, 5 Why, and more).
- Own annual productivity, cost, and energy goals, shaping the engineering roadmap for the plant.
- Collaborate across Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, and Commercial, and represent the process engineering voice with customers.
- Champion a strong safety culture, leading risk assessments and keeping us ahead of OSHA and environmental standards.
Requirements
- A degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience in its place.
- A track record in manufacturing engineering, ideally within aluminum extrusion or a similar metals/process environment.
- Comfort leading or mentoring a team, even if formal people-management experience is still growing.
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools, and a genuine curiosity for making processes better.
- Working knowledge of die technology, SPC/DOE, process capability, and industrial automation (don’t worry, we’ll fill any gaps together).
- Strong problem-solving instincts paired with a collaborative, can-do mindset.
- Clear communication skills and the drive to lead projects from idea to impact.
