Process Engineer II

Under the direction of the Process Engineering Supervisor, support the Operations Superintendent in monitoring product specifications. Provide technical assistance for small capital projects aimed at increasing refinery productivity and efficiency. Assist Project Engineering, outside consultants, and firms in monitoring efficiency and expansion efforts. Support Operations in unit monitoring and optimization to meet refinery goals, and aid the Process Safety Management group in maintaining process safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for Plan Operations, including daily monitoring and troubleshooting of assigned refinery unit(s).
• Engage in process optimization, design, and development of capital projects.
• Collaborate with operators and engineers in a team environment to maintain, troubleshoot, and develop advanced applications for process units.
• Develop small project scopes of work and work directly with Drafting and other Engineers to ensure appropriate design and sizing of equipment.
• Support Process Catalysts and Chemicals bidding by contacting vendors for information and providing necessary details.
• Assist in planning unit shutdowns and startups, administer plant performance test runs, and provide operational data or drawings to vendors or maintenance as needed.
• Track data performance using spreadsheets and provide information to vendors.
• Supply Lab Data or Operation Data to Project Engineering or outside vendors for expansion purposes.
• Work with Computer personnel on the TDCIAPC control system to improve monitoring.
• Research and monitor upcoming technology changes to enhance future refinery strategies.
• Regularly communicate work progress, concerns, and questions to the supervisor.
• Ensure safety, environmental compliance, reliability, and operating excellence.
• Maintain product specifications, reduce downtime, and optimize process design and capital project development.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in oil refinery process engineering or operations.
• Experience with capital and operating cost estimating and economic analysis is preferred.
• Experience with flow sheet development, equipment selection and sizing, pressure relief system calculation, general hydraulic calculation, PHA, process simulations, and process selection studies is highly desirable.
• Ability to set up and maintain unit monitoring spreadsheets, including mass, heat, and material balances, and conversion calculations.
• Strong computer skills with Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office functions.
• Knowledge and skills with HYSYS, PRO-II, PROMAX, VBA, and MATLAB are preferred.
• Good understanding of mechanical, machinery, and towers.
• Strong mathematical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills, with a solid understanding of P&IDs and PFDs.
• Fluent in English, both oral and written.
• Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs.
• Exposure to work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States; the company will not sponsor immigration or work visas.
