Process Engineer- CNC

Essential Function

The position is responsible for developing, optimizing, and controlling CNC machining processes for silicon and other brittle materials to ensure all dimensional, cosmetic, and performance requirements for semiconductor applications are met. The engineer must understand complex manufacturing workflows, CNC equipment and programming, material-removal technologies, tooling, and consumables in support of Silfex operations. The role focuses on managing and controlling machining processes to meet customer specifications with strong emphasis on safety and quality. This position serves as the company’s subject matter expert for CNC machining and leads the development, implementation, and qualification of machining processes required to support customer needs.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develops, sustains, and optimizes CNC machining processes, tooling, and equipment for silicon and brittle materials.
  • Provides expertise in critical manufacturing processes, including grinding and advanced CNC machining operations.
  • Uses SPC and data-driven methods to stabilize processes, elevate capability, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Led root cause analysis, DOE, and measurement-based investigations; converts data into clear, actionable plans.
  • Maintains and updates FMEAs for assigned equipment and processes.
  • Authors technical documentation including Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and Test Plans.
  • Applies Lean manufacturing and problem-solving methodologies.
  • CNC Programming & Equipment Knowledgeable to support CNC, demonstrates basic understanding of G/M-code programming.
  • Supports equipment performance improvement and capability enhancement across functional groups.
  • Project & Cross-Functional Execution
  • Leads projects from initiation through closure while managing multiple priorities.
  • Supports new and existing product development from a technical perspective.
  • Provides cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Maintenance to improve quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Serves as a technical problem solver, driving improvements that enhance safety, reduce scrap, and improve process robustness.

Technical Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of shop operations and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience with Lean/6-Sigma problem-solving methods.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline plus 2-3 years’ experience
  • In lieu of degree, 10+ years of relevant manufacturing environment, preferably machining or precision CNC operations, and problem solving experience.
