Process Engineer
About the role
Hexcel is seeking a Process Engineer for its Salt Lake City Fibers, UT, USA location. This role involves characterizing carbon fiber products and developing processes, focusing on structure-property relationships and evaluation of fabrication methods.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate carbon fiber processing conditions and resultant material properties, troubleshooting as necessary using SPC techniques.
- Manage process conditions to meet Process Control Document requirements and mechanical and physical properties.
- Solve problems using cross-function teams with tools like DMAIC and Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Develop and implement carbon fiber processing conditions for new equipment and materials.
- Manage qualification efforts for new equipment, processes, and materials.
- Provide training to operations personnel.
- Disposition nonconforming product and support root cause and corrective action activities.
- Interface with customers and support as needed.
- Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Materials, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in carbon fiber or other continuous process industry.
- Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with ability to speak effectively before groups.
- Current computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma continuous improvement programs.
- Experience with SPC and other statistical techniques.
- Experience with SQL, Python, PowerBI, or other data analytic software.
