Process Development Associate II
About the Role
This position resides in the Process Operations team within the Process Development department and drives robustness and consistency in the laboratory through execution and innovation of laboratory practices. The Process Development Associate II supports and executes laboratory studies, maintains ownership of laboratory systems, and serves as an operational lead on projects with increasing collaboration within the department. The role involves being a subject matter expert (SME) on both process execution and laboratory systems.
Responsibilities
- Execute laboratory studies with documentation and reporting consistent with Process Development compliance and Quality standards.
- Author operational documents of varying complexity for unit operations and laboratory systems, demonstrating moderate technical writing and communication skills.
- Apply scientific approaches to solve technical problems of small scope or moderate complexity.
- Serve as an operational lead for specific projects on a consistent basis.
- Develop a theoretical understanding of 1-2 methods/unit operations (e.g., harvest clarification, fermentation, chromatography, depth filtration, UFDF) and apply scientific principles to execute these operations.
- Act as an SME/system owner for 1-2 laboratory systems (e.g., stainless fermentors, pilot-scale single-use fermentors, pilot-scale chromatography skid, bench-scale chromatography or fermentation systems) and train junior staff on these systems.
- Troubleshoot laboratory equipment and processes with moderate supervision, demonstrating mechanical and hands-on competencies.
- Participate in process development meetings and technical investigations, presenting data as needed.
- Identify, evaluate, develop, and implement new technologies to improve process efficiency and operations.
- Identify and implement continuous operational improvement ideas.
- Maintain training compliance according to site expectations.
Experience in stirred tank fermentations (single-use and stainless), chromatography, precipitation, and filtration methods is highly preferred.
Requirements
- A.S. in Biotechnology or a related field, or a B.S./M.S. degree in microbiology, biochemistry, chemistry, engineering, or a related area (with equivalent training).
- A.S./B.S. degree with a minimum of 2+ years of related experience, or an M.S. with 0+ years of related experience.
Pay
$55,000–$75,000 per year.
Schedule
This is a salaried, exempt position with the expectation to work off-hours shift work when necessary, depending on laboratory activities and organizational need. A salary differential incentive is offered for consistent off-hours work.
