Process Control Engineer

About the Role

The Process Control Engineer will provide engineering services for all physical, chemical, and biological processes throughout the treatment plant, collection system, outfall, and remote pump stations. This role involves assisting the Director of Process Control Engineering and Regulatory Compliance by conducting studies and experiments related to plant operations, permit compliance, and the water quality monitoring program.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain quality controls for daily operational data.
• Draft and plot graphs and charts, and transition analytical and operational data to the process computer.
• Conduct operator-level research to improve plant performance.
• Examine and improve operating policies for specific unit processes and/or operations within the plant.
• Prepare and write technical research reports and studies.
• Instruct and monitor operational personnel to establish and maintain sampling programs.
• Analyze both off-site and on-site water and wastewater samples.
• Maintain field sampling and monitoring equipment.
• Interface with engineering consultants on behalf of PVSC, review their drawings and specifications, and act as a liaison during construction.

Requirements

• Understanding of treatment processes.
• Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate engineering problems, express findings quantitatively, and develop sound plans and recommendations.
• Apply engineering principles and techniques to work assignments and prepare clear, concise, and sound engineering reports.
• Knowledge of programmable logic control software and ability to read design drawings and instrumentation diagrams.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Valid New Jersey driver’s license.
• Bachelor of Science degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, or computer science with a specialization in computer software engineering.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in wastewater treatment systems or process design (preferred but not required).
• S2 or C2 license issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) is required (or must be actively pursuing*).
• *Actively pursuing is defined as taking the associated State license exam at least 2 times per year until the license is obtained.

Physical Demands

• Perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb (including ladders), kneel, lift up to 25 lbs., carry, reach, push, pull, use a keyboard and tools, and have hearing and visual acuity.
• Qualify for and perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE), such as canister and dust masks, and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), in compliance with PVSC’s Facial Hair Grooming Policy.

Working Conditions

Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and may be required to work both indoors and outdoors. Year-round access by boat to area water bodies and use of a sampling truck in various weather conditions will be necessary. All applicants must meet the NJ First Act residency requirements.

Pay

The expected base pay range for this position is $85,922 to $130,865. The specific salary offered may be influenced by relevant experience, qualifications, education, training, and formal credentials.
