Process Control Engineer

Automation Solutions Consultant (Process Controls, DCS) North Louisiana, or remote across the south-central US$140,000 to $180,000Full-time, permanent, around 30 to 40% travel This one suits a process controls engineer who is tired of being handed a narrow slice of a project and wants to own the whole thing, from the first customer conversation through to start-up. You would join a well-established automation integrator that works across pulp and paper, specialty chemical, discrete and steel manufacturing, with around 40 active customers in the region. The work is genuinely varied, no two projects look the same, and you would be trusted to run yours with very little oversight. You would also be the technical face to the customer, so this is as much about scoping work, writing proposals and holding a relationship as it is about the engineering. The company runs process controls and discrete automation side by side and is growing its north Louisiana presence, so an early hire here carries real influence rather than being one more engineer in a large head-office team. The culture is informal and people are trusted to get on with the job. What you'll do You would lead full project life cycles, DCS-led, on Honeywell Experion and ABB 800xA (DeltaV and other DCS experience is very welcome too). That means taking a process from P&ID and control narrative through design, configuration, commissioning and site acceptance. Alongside the engineering you would develop Scope of Work packages, proposals and cost estimates, and act as the primary technical liaison between the company and the customer. Expect intermittent travel to sites, weekly in pattern, out during the week and home by Friday. No long tours away for months. What you'll need You do not need to tick every platform on a job spec. What matters is real process controls depth and genuine project ownership from design through commissioning, not configuration or maintenance alone. DCS experience is the differentiator, ideally Honeywell Experion or ABB 800xA, though strong DeltaV or other DCS backgrounds transfer well. You should be comfortable reading P&IDs, schematics and control panel drawings, and confident enough to scope work and stand in front of a client. Around 7 or more years of hands-on experience is the level. A degree in Electrical or Control Systems Engineering is a plus. Pulp and paper or specialty chemical experience is a real bonus.
