About the role
The Procedural Registered Nurse II (RN) coordinates and delivers patient care in cardiovascular catheterization laboratory or interventional radiological care settings. Responsibilities include administering patient care under the direction of a physician, setting up and initiating intra-aortic balloon pump support, and assisting with setup of impella devices.
Responsibilities
- Administers patient care under the direction of a physician.
- Sets up and initiates intra-aortic balloon pump support.
- May assist with setup of impella devices.
- Sets up and initiates hemodynamic support and temporary pacing.
- Identifies and pursues expected patient outcomes in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.
- Performs a range of clinical tasks that may include moderate sedation, monitoring of hemodynamics and temporary pacing, cardioversion/defibrillation, and medication administration, including drips.
- Supports less experienced registered nurses in both the administration of complex care, and development of team’s clinical skillset to encompass more complex care and procedures.
- Mentors junior nurses to develop competence, confidence, and understanding of the larger system of care.
- Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies and procedures.
- Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient/family needs.
- Consults with appropriate resources in a timely fashion regarding patients with complex care issues, unusual teaching needs and/or those at high risk for discharge planning.
- Collaborates with peers in a clinical operations environment, including fostering intra/interdepartmental communication.
- Synthesizes data in complex situations to determine priorities for care, including appropriate physical, psychosocial, education and safety needs.
- Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families.
- Communicates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care using cultural competency and active listening.
- Develops relationships with patients and their families that promote their ability to advocate for patient and family needs.
- Develops clinical and operational excellence in self and in peers through education and training.
- Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospital environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.
Qualifications
- Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina or one of compact states required by first date of clinical care.
- Must have experience performing the circulator and monitoring role in a cath lab setting.
- Experience caring for patients with ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) with or without cardiogenic shock.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification required by first date of clinical care.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required by first date of clinical care.
