About the role
The Probationary Science Teacher position at Grand Island High School is anticipated to begin on September 1, 2026. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Earth Science, Chemistry, and Biology to students in grades 7-12.
Responsibilities
- Teach Earth Science, Chemistry, and Biology to students in grades 7-12.
- Develop and implement high school science curricula.
- Use authentic and traditional assessments to differentiate instruction and improve student achievement.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment to support the school's mission and vision.
- Show strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrate positive and effective classroom management skills.
- Engage in data-driven instruction and provide academic intervention services for science.
Qualifications
- New York State Certified Teacher in Earth Science 7-12, Chemistry 7-12, or Biology 7-12.
- Dual certification in two or more sciences preferred.
- Experience teaching high school Biology and/or Earth & Space Science.
- Familiarity with the current New York State Science Learning Standards.
- Evidence of academic success at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to the school's mission and vision.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Evidence of positive and effective classroom management skills.
- Experience with high school science curriculum development preferred.
- Experience with data-driven instruction and delivery of academic intervention services for science desired.
Benefits
The salary range for this position is from $49,447 to $52,190 per GITA contract, based on BA Step 1 or MA Step 1 respectively. The district offers competitive benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, and professional development opportunities.
Pay
The starting salary for this position is $49,447 per GITA contract, based on BA Step 1. The salary is competitive and may increase based on performance and qualifications.
Schedule
The Probationary Science Teacher will work at Grand Island High School from 7:25 am to 2:25 pm, Monday through Friday.
