Location: Greeneville, TN – Department of Correction (1 position). A Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) screening and criminal background check will be conducted prior to employment.
Pay
$4,057.00 – $5,078.00 per month ($48,684.00 – $60,936.00 annually).
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Full-time relevant professional experience, including law enforcement, may substitute year-for-year for the degree.
- Must:
- Be willing and able to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons;
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age;
- Be a U.S. citizen;
- Have good moral character, as determined by investigation;
- Complete a criminal history disclosure form and release all records to the appointing authority;
- Supply fingerprints for a TBI criminal history records check;
- Have no felony convictions, no domestic assault convictions, and no dishonorable military discharge;
- Pass a physical examination and psychological evaluation consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act;
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening;
- Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license at the time of appointment;
- Successfully complete all prescribed training at the Tennessee Correction Academy and any online courses.
About the Role
Under general supervision, this entry-level position performs probation and parole work of average difficulty. The role involves a one-year training period, after which successful incumbents are reclassified to the next level in the series. Supervision is initially close but becomes more general as procedures are mastered.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain offenders’ records and reports, including narrative reports, caseload activities, and responses to special requests by the parole board.
- Monitor offenders to ensure compliance with release requirements and conduct regular interviews to evaluate progress toward goals.
- Search state, local, and federal databases for offender-related incidents and information.
- Conduct pre-hearing and pre-release investigations; testify in court or parole hearings regarding offender backgrounds and recommended sentencing.
- Search offender residences, vehicles, and persons as required by policy.
- Act as a liaison with judges, court personnel, law enforcement, and other agencies.
- Address non-compliance with appropriate graduated sanctions, including writing warrants and reports to courts or the Board.
- Supervise probationers on community-based sentences (e.g., electronically monitored home detention) and conduct field visits to homes, workplaces, or schools.
- Administer drug and alcohol tests, including random screens, to verify compliance with substance abuse programs.
- Respond to correspondence from other states regarding offender supervision.
- Conduct validated risk and needs assessments using motivational interviewing techniques to determine re-offense risk and criminogenic factors.
- Handle offender complaints and grievances professionally and promptly.
