About the role

Responsibilities

  • Supervises offenders in various activities including housing units, educational, recreational, religious, and treatment programs.
  • Performs routine checks and counts of offenders, inspects housing units, and reports on any violations or health/safety concerns.
  • Interviews offenders to gather information about their backgrounds, conducts background checks, and prepares reports.
  • Retrieves and verifies information from various databases, responds to warrants, and assists with scheduling changes for offenders on electronic monitoring.
  • Assists with the maintenance of databases, inventory, and logs; troubleshoots equipment issues; and handles emergency calls.
  • Monitors offender behavior, provides after-hours assistance, and performs tasks such as searching for contraband and administering substance abuse assessments.
  • Administers DNA sample collection and supervises visits with offenders.
  • Provides support to probation and parole officers during court hearings and home visits.
  • Manages offender movements and interventions in emergency situations, including performing CPR.
  • Orders and maintains supplies, and exercises some independence in performing duties.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of safety training, including firearms, defensive tactics, CPR, and First Aid, and the ability to re-qualify annually.
  • Completion of training administered by the Missouri State Highway Patrol in the Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES) prior to regular appointment.

  • Proficiency in computer systems and databases.
  • Knowledge of criminal justice and correctional practices.

Pay

  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if working shifts between 12:00pm and 5:00am at a 24/7 facility.
  • A $0.75 per hour medium security or $1.50 maximum security differential if working full-time at a qualifying facility.
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if assigned to a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit.

Schedule

  • The department offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years.
