Department Summary
The Ballmer Institute for Children's Behavioral Health at the University of Oregon Portland establishes a new national model for behavioral healthcare for children and families by creating the nation’s first undergraduate program in child behavioral health. The institute prioritizes the needs of youth who have been historically or persistently underserved and seeks to make real system change by: - Creating a new mental health profession - Delivering support in schools and the community - Training existing youth-serving professionals - Developing new approaches to support child behavioral health - Transforming the Pacific Northwest into a national model of thought and action This groundbreaking institute was made possible by an extraordinary gift from Connie and Steve Ballmer, co-founders of Ballmer Group Philanthropy.
Position Summary
The Ballmer Institute is seeking qualified applicants for its research recruitment open pool. Positions will be limited duration appointments that are part-time or short-term, with contracts not to exceed one year; some projects may carry the possibility of renewal up to a total of three years, depending on programmatic need, funding, and performance. Research activities will involve contributing to studies on behavioral health in youth and families, with focus areas including:
- Mental health literacy and prevention strategies
- Social and environmental influences on sleep and developmental processes
- Technology use and its impact on well-being
- Risk and protective factors for youth psychopathology
- Implementation and evaluation of evidence-based interventions in community settings
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the rank of Research Assistant (Type B):
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or other related field
- Master’s degree in Psychology or other related field
- Ph.D. by the start of the position
- Experience in a research lab
- Ph.D. by the start of the position
- Experience in a research lab
Professional Competencies
Professional experience, ability, or potential for quality research.
Preferred Qualifications
Research background in Psychology or a closely related field.
Salary
Salary will be dependent upon education, experience, and available funding.
Location
Some positions are location bound including cities such as Portland, OR; Eugene, OR; Boston, MA; and Philadelphia, PA. Other positions may be virtual/hybrid.
