About the role
Vaughan Regional Medical Center is a 175-bed, Joint Commission-accredited community hospital located in Selma, Alabama. The Ultrasound Technologist plays a crucial role in assisting with the diagnosis and evaluation of patient medical conditions through diagnostic ultrasound examinations.
Responsibilities
- Perform ultrasound imaging procedures in accordance with established protocols, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Prepare and position patients for ultrasound procedures, ensuring optimal imaging and diagnostic accuracy.
- Operate ultrasound equipment to capture high-quality diagnostic images for physician interpretation.
- Document patient history, imaging procedures, and observations in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Maintain equipment, including cleaning, calibrating, and reporting equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
- Auxiliary support during invasive ultrasound-guided procedures, such as biopsies and aspirations.
- Monitor and assess patients for adverse reactions to procedures or contrast media and respond appropriately.
- Participate in quality control initiatives to maintain accreditation and regulatory compliance.
- Provide education to patients and family members regarding imaging procedures and offer compassionate patient care.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment in accordance with infection control policies.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and ultrasound imaging protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction and teamwork.
- Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment and related diagnostic software.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in imaging and documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and maintaining ARDMS certification.
Qualifications
- Postsecondary (Cert/Diploma/Program Grad) graduate of an accredited Ultrasound or Radiologic Technology program.
- Associate’s Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Radiologic Technology preferred.
- (S) ARDMS or ARRT – Sonography or equivalent credential (RDMS or CCI) required upon hire or within facility-specified timeframe.
- 1+ years clinical experience in diagnostic ultrasound imaging preferred.
- Prior experience in a hospital or acute care setting preferred.
