PRN Registered Nurse - PreOp/PACU

About the Role

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards. The role is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction, utilizing specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and post-operative planning needs.
• Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and ensures completion within appropriate timeframe.
• Reviews diagnostics, laboratory data, and reports abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy guidelines.
• Formulates a plan of care, including discharge planning, using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team.
• Initiates and revises the plan of care based on patient-specific needs and evaluation of patient status.
• Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities.
• Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, ensuring compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
• Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
• Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
• Evaluates patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely and accurate manner.
• Provides care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participates in shared leadership, education, orientation, and mentoring of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Contributes to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
• Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, including participation in professional organizations.
• May provide relief charge for staff and workflow management in some locations.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing, or higher, required.
• Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary RN license, or compact RN licensure.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• PALS certification required within 90 days of start date if assigned to ASC pediatric services.

Qualifications

Core (Full-Time/Part-Time)

• Minimum one-year licensed RN experience in PreOp/PACU (e.g., ICU, ED).
• Licensed RN with no PreOp/PACU experience enrolled in Perianesthesia Academy with successful completion within 4 months.
• New licensed RN enrolled in the Perianesthesia Academy with successful completion within 4 months.

PRN

• Minimum two years licensed RN experience in PreOp/PACU.

Preferred Qualifications

• PreOp/PACU licensed RN experience strongly preferred.
