Summary

Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and ASC policies and procedures. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others who are under his/her direction. Participates in direct patient care and maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct patient care in an individual Operating Room
  • Ensure proper techniques and practices are used in accordance to accepted standards of practice
  • Comply with HIPAA regulations and maintain knowledge of patient rights
  • Perform duties in an ethical and legal manner within the scope of license as defined by the State
  • Supervise other personnel in the room and direct or assist as necessary
  • Immediately report unusual occurrences to charge personnel and document appropriately in the patient record
  • Demonstrate primary nursing accountability through coordination, communication and continuity of patient care
  • Assess, prioritize, plan and implement patient care in an effective manner
  • Maintain medical records in an accurate and legible manner
  • Participate in continuing education/in-service training, staff meetings, and Q.A.P.I. program
  • Follow Physician orders and directions from management
  • Actively participate in the development of a healthy work environment
  • Assist in training new staff when needed
  • Balance team and individual responsibilities
  • Recognize each department's significance and work appropriately with other departments

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
  • One year of previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings preferred: surgical, ambulatory surgical center (ASC), Pre/Post-Op, PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical, Telemetry or Operating Room

Licenses and Credentials

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License required in the state where the worksite is located
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred

Systems and Technology

  • Knowledge of Amkai Office and Amkai Charts Database software
  • Knowledge of patient monitoring and emergency equipment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Printer, copier, telephone and fax

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%)
  • Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%)
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs
  • Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands with constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology
  • Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus—required 100% of the time
  • Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary
