Job Summary And Qualifications The Lactation Consultant provides lactation support services and clinical management for breastfeeding mother/infants, in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, families and significant others. Lactation Consultants are responsible for decisions and actions delineated by their professional certification to include assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of the breastfeeding mother and infant(s). Responsibilities also include identification/prevention of breastfeeding problems, complete accurate and timely documentation of care and communication with all involved in mother/infant(s) care. The Lactation Consultant role reflects knowledge of educational updates, new technology and research studies consistent with the International Lactation Consultant Association. What qualifications you will need: Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred. Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation. BCLS required. If not currently an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), must obtain within 2 years. If preparing for testing to become IBCLC, current registry in good standing with at least one of the following credentialing agencies is required Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (Lactation Education Resources) Certified Breastfeeding Educator (Lactation Consultant Services) Completion of Certified Lactation Specialist Course (Lactation Education Consultants) Certified Breastfeeding Advisor (Rising Star Education) A minimum of 3 years clinical experience in maternal/neonatal nursing Benefits Overland Park Regional Medical Center, offers a total rewards package that supports the health, life, career and retirement of our colleagues.
