About the Position
Harris Health System is seeking a PRN Physician to join the Correctional Health team. This role offers flexibility while providing the opportunity to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals housed in the Harris County Jail.
Responsibilities
- Performing intake health assessments
- Managing urgent and chronic conditions
- Collaborating with advanced practice providers and interdisciplinary teams
- Working closely with Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies, nursing staff, and on-site services such as radiology, pharmacy, laboratory, dental, and nutrition services
- Using strong clinical judgment and adaptability
- Working both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic healthcare environment

Requirements
- Education: - Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- Board Certification: - Board Certified or Board-Eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine
- Licensure: - Active Texas Medical Board license, Active DEA license
- Experience: - Completion of an ACGME-accredited 3- or 4-year residency program
- Clinical Skills: - Proficiency in suturing, splinting, and EKG interpretation; Strong clinical judgment and patient care skills
- Communication Skills: - Above Average Verbal (heavy public contact); Exceptional verbal communication (public speaking); Strong written communication (correspondence and reports)
- Technical Skills: - Computer proficiency
- Knowledge/Skills: - Analytical abilities; Mathematics and medical terminology; Research knowledge and capabilities
- Work Schedule: - PRN / as-needed basis; Flexible schedule including holidays; Leave requests must be submitted 60 days in advance
