About the role

The Coastal Region of Novant Health is seeking a Pharmacy Tech to support the launch and development of pharmaceutical care services at the upcoming Scotts Hill Medical Center (SHMC).

Responsibilities

  • Filling and delivering medication orders for all age groups under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Performing non-sterile compounding and repackaging.
  • Answering and screening telephone calls, referring calls to a pharmacist when appropriate.
  • Processing cart fills, refills to automated dispensing machines, and replenishments to emergency kits and carts.
  • Demonstrating proficiency with equipment and software.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree, preferred.
  • Experience: Acute Care: Prior experience in a minimum of three pharmacy skills (such as medication distribution, sterile compounding, medication listing, controlled substance accountability, highly privileged ADS, validating duties and/or procurement).
  • OR hired as a Pharmacy Tech II Certified, with 2 years experience in acute care and now competent in a third pharmacy skill.
  • Outpatient Oncology: Minimum of four years of experience in any pharmacy setting with two years in sterile compounding (IV and/or chemotherapy admixture).
  • Specialty pharmacy: Minimum of four years of experience in any pharmacy setting required with two years in specialty setting.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current registry with applicable State Board(s) of Pharmacy, required. PTCB or NHA Certification within 60 days of hire, required. A minimum of two relevant specialized certificates/certifications from approved vendors such as PTCB, BPTS or NPTA (examples include product verification, medication history, hazardous drug management, billing/reimbursement, controlled substances diversion prevention, medication therapy management, sterile compounding).
  • Additional Skills: Considerable knowledge and application of basic math skills, including ratio and proportion relationships; strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic technology skills.

Qualifications

  • State registration and/or evidence of renewal is required for both Pharmacists and Technicians fifteen days prior to expiration and Technicians are required to be either certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • Validating duties (NC only): must complete initial didactic and practical training prior to initial validation. Must obtain 99.7% accuracy rate on initial validation and 99% accuracy in subsequent audits.

Skills

  • Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects;
  • The ability to demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and verbal communication skills with other healthcare professionals.
  • Experience with inventory management.
