PRN - Patient Care Assistant II (PCA)

Part-time, temporary position with a maximum of 999 hours annually. Compensation is $30.00 per hour with an additional $0.87 per hour shift differential from 3pm to 7am.

About the Role

Positions in this job family are responsible for providing direct and indirect non-professional nursing care or outreach services in a clinic, hospital, institution, or home setting under nursing or medical supervision. This includes tasks such as taking vital signs, obtaining lab specimens, charting, escorting patients, assisting with activities of daily living, and ordering and receiving supplies.

Responsibilities

• Performs direct nursing tasks including taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living and hygiene needs, and obtaining certain lab specimens.
• Charts observations and activities, reporting pertinent changes in the patient’s condition.
• Performs delegated or other specialized functions as educationally prepared.
• Escorts patients to and from various destinations.
• Assists in maintaining and providing a clean, safe environment.
• Orders, receives, and stores supplies and performs basic clerical functions.
• Participates in follow-up activities and tracking clients, schedules appointments, and performs other related tasks.
• Provides case finding and recruitment of at-risk persons for comprehensive health services.
• Performs other related duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of the position and agency operations.

Requirements

• One year of experience in providing patient care.
• Knowledge of the English language to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of public health services, record keeping, interviewing techniques, basic nursing practices, sanitation, personal hygiene, and medical terminology.
• Ability to record observations and activities, follow oral and written directions, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and apply basic nursing techniques.

Qualifications

Some positions may require:

• A valid Oklahoma driver’s license and/or a Class C (CDL) Commercial Driver’s License.
• Translation of health information for non-English speaking clients.
• Current certification in good standing by the Oklahoma State Department of Health as a Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) for Level I and II.
• Certification as a Certified Medication Aide Advanced (CMA-A) by the Oklahoma State Department of Health for Level III.
• Current certification in good standing by the Oklahoma State Department of Health as a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) for all levels within the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
• Physical examination requirements, including occasionally lifting/carrying 50 pounds and pushing/pulling a maximum force of 25 pounds (for Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services applicants).
