The MRI Technologist performs MRI procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing injuries and diseases. Minimum qualifications include current licensure as required by state boards, certification through ARRT or ARMRIT in MRI, and a state criminal background check.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares and explains exams to patients
  • Performs all exams relevant to specialty areas
  • Maintains current knowledge of procedures in specialty areas
  • Maintains proper magnetic field safety requirements
  • Aids physicians during specialty exams
  • Processes exams and makes them available on PACS
  • Demonstrates appropriate patient/family/self-safety practices
  • Delegates and evaluates the care given by peers, other members of the health care team, and ancillary staff
  • Participates in self-evaluation and develops a professional development plan based on personal and unit goals
  • Finishes all paperwork related to patient exams after completion
  • Assists in the education and oversight of orientees, ancillary staff, and students
  • Active on selected committees for information exchange and problem-solving
  • Continuously updates knowledge base and develops through formal and informal educational activities
  • Assists in identifying problems for investigation, collecting data for research projects, and applying current concepts to patient care
  • Values based care emphasizes quality customer services (Service Excellence Standards) for patients and employees

Physical Requirements

  • Extended periods of standing and walking
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs of weight
  • Carry items of up to 20 lbs

Working Environment

  • Works in a strong magnetic field
  • Exposed to virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens
  • May be exposed to traumatic situations including psychiatric crises, physical injuries, and death
  • Possible exposure to ionizing radiation and sharps

  • Multi-tasking ability
  • Ability to prioritize and handle various situations

Additional Job Description

This position works weekday dayshift with rotating weekends. Scheduled weekly hours are 0. The days of the week required to work will be scheduled to meet department needs and may change at the manager's discretion.
