Job Description

Conducts all expected tests and analytical procedures efficiently and accurately according to hospital procedures, performance standards, and competency standards.

Participates in proficiency testing, adhering to federal and state regulations as well as hospital policies.

Performs post-analytical activities including reporting results and providing technical and support information for all age groups.

Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines and support education for clinical staff as appropriate or requested.

Participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities, including evaluating new equipment and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Technical skills and aptitudes related to the laboratory testing, procedures, and processes performed in the department or work area assigned
  • Fulfills and ensures adherence of staff to the Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies; protects the confidentiality of patient information and results at all times
  • Works independently and adapts to varying priorities, including directing workflow with minimal supervision
  • Maintains equipment/records and performs quality assessment activities
  • Operates computer systems to maintain patient documentation, testing records, and other related documents
  • Edits and trains new staff in medical laboratory settings
  • Communicates appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals
  • Reads, writes, and speaks conversational English
  • Holds a certification from one of the following: Medical Laboratory Scientist (American Society for Clinical Pathology), or Medical Technologist (American Society for Clinical Pathology), or Medical Technologist (American Medical Technologist), or Medical Technologist (American Associate of Bioanalyst), or Clinical Laboratory Supervisor through AMT
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, etc., and adapt to change
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing; additional languages [Preferred]
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and people skills, with mathematical, computer, reasoning, and language skills at the college level
  • Familiarity with a broad range of laboratory equipment including but not limited to computers, telephone, fax, copier, printers, chemistry analyzers, hematology analyzers, coagulation analyzers, urinalysis analyzers, blood bank and microbiology analyzers, glucometers, incubators, environmental hoods, monitored refrigerators and freezers, centrifuges, phlebotomy chairs, and supplies

Education

  • Associate's degree in medical technology or related sciences with state licensure if required or appropriate national certification
  • Qualified and served as high complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024.
