About the Role
The Dietary Aide is responsible for assembling patient meal trays according to dietary orders, setting up and breaking down food and non-food items for patient meal services, and preparing food items for patients, employees, and visitors, including catering functions. This role involves daily preparation and delivery of snacks, assisting with cleaning dishes and kitchenware, and supporting department and transdisciplinary team activities to ensure individualized, patient-centered care.
This position involves interaction with adult (18-65 years) and geriatric (65 and older) patient populations in a non-clinical setting.
Responsibilities
- Assemble patient meal trays according to dietary orders and patient menus.
- Prepare and deliver daily snacks based on patients’ dietary needs, restrictions, and par levels.
- Follow proper serving techniques and prepare a variety of foods according to customer orders, hospital recipes, or supervisor instructions.
- Assist cooks and other dietary staff with food preparation and related tasks.
- Assist with inventory, stock vending machines, and ensure the kitchen and cafeteria are adequately stocked with supplies, utensils, and accessories.
- Maintain appropriate par levels and notify supervisors of low supplies or equipment issues.
- Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, silverware, and trays.
- Store and label food in designated containers and areas to prevent spoilage.
- Greet patients, employees, and visitors courteously and respond to requests with a positive attitude.
- Ensure safety at all times by reporting risk factors and maintaining appropriate safety measures.
