About the role

National EMR consistently seeks talented and hard-working individuals who are eager to assist impacted communities and first responders on an "as needed" basis as reservist employees.

Responsibilities

  • Reservists may be assigned to any role within an emergency response under the Incident Command System (ICS) structure.
    • Possess a clear understanding of National EMR, and Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) protocols for illness, injury, medication administration and emergency situations.
      • Ability to exhibit clear communication skills with clinic staff, command staff and physicians.
      • Establishes health care plans for service population utilizing best practice provider guidelines.
      • Complete accurate documentation in accordance with agency policies and procedures, contract and regulatory requirements and standards and program timeline requirements.
      • Review, write and update medical protocols and procedures in collaboration with chain of command.
      • Meet all pre-determined deadlines required by program and federal partners.
      • Understand and adhere to the National EMR Policies and Procedures Manual, Uniform Handbook, and Operations Manual.
      • Maintain personal readiness to deploy within 6–12 hours of activation, including updated availability in National EMR’s mobile application.
      • Complete agency-directed training through the learning management system, including Just-In-Time (JIT) training and mission-specific modules.
      • Promote a culture of safety by identifying hazards, reporting safety concerns immediately, and following established safety protocols.
      • Foster a culture that encourages team members to work safely, identify potential hazards, and report safety concerns immediately to their direct chain of command.
      • Maintain active status within the agency’s platforms, including learning management systems to complete training that may be directed toward self-improvement, mission-specifics, or Just-In-Time (JIT) training.
      • Participate in, assist, or supervise a workforce that will conduct disaster preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives as needed.
      • Be receptive and flexible to serve in any position when responding to critical circumstances which may have obstacles and/or challenges that need to be overcome.
      • Be able to solve day-to-day operational issues and reach short-term performance goals.
      • Support survivors and communities during disasters by being readily available to assist at a moment’s notice.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 4000 hours or two (2) years of Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant experience in a family practice or a moderate volume (>10,000 visits/year) emergency department setting is required.
  • Prior RN experience is preferred if practicing as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Experience with pediatric and adult populations to include completing physical assessments is required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) communication skills are preferred.

Skills

  • Must maintain deployable status and the physical/mental readiness to work in emergency environments on short notice.
  • Adhere to high standards of professional integrity and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and workplace expectations.
  • Provide proof of valid driver’s license and driving record in good standing with no restrictions (subject to review annually).
  • Successfully pass a background check and drug screening (pre-deployment or random).
  • Demonstrate the ability to: Work collaboratively across disciplines and communicate effectively (verbal and written).
  • Respond sensitively to diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and community needs.
  • Navigate high-stress environments with sound judgment and composure.
  • Operate independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team with limited supervision.
  • Use Microsoft Office and communication tools (radio, satellite phone, mobile apps).
  • Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
  • Maintain professional skills, including strong interpersonal and non-verbal communication.
  • Perform physical activity such as extensive walking, stretching, bending, and occasionally lifting and/or exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Maintain physical endurance and focus during extended operations (12-hour shifts).
  • Be available for on-call duty and may be required to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to support emergency response and deployment operations.
  • Maintain current licenses and certificates required for the position including, but not limited to: Good standing as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) within the state of practice or at minimum within another state if operations are based on Federal property or part of a disaster response where disaster licensing is permitted.
  • Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  • Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
  • Demonstrate the ability to: Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics Work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers, professionals and clients Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining control and professional composure at all times and making decisions based on the needs of the program and service population Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team Must provide current physical-medical release and provide proof of immunizations, titers or declinations for the following: MMR Varicella HepB HepA Tetanus TB Screen in past 12 months via PPD/IGRA or Chest X-ray Meningococcal (preferred) Influenza (during the annual season)
