About the role
The Community Music Center of Boston is seeking a private piano instructor with a strong jazz background to teach students Fall 2026. The position offers community, growth opportunities, and a compensation structure that includes paid administrative time and professional development.
Responsibilities
- Teach students according to curricular guidelines
- Prepare students for performance events and opportunities
- Hold at least one studio recital during the school year
- Complete attendance in registration software accurately and timely
- Maintain open and regular communication with parents/caregivers and students via email
- Attend department meetings and the annual all-faculty meetings
- Facilitate student participation in musical opportunities
Qualifications
- Strong jazz background
- Bachelor's degree in music performance/education with knowledge in piano performance/pedagogy or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2 years teaching experience and knowledge of early childhood piano pedagogies
- Able to adapt to individual needs of a diverse student population and provide constructive feedback
- Adept at and comfortable with working in a culturally diverse environment
- Reflects on practice, seeks and responds to feedback, and demonstrates self-awareness and commitment to continuous learning and development
- Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Engages with families and builds collaborative, respectful relationships with them in service of student learning
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Preferred
- Accompaniment experience
- Supervisory experience
- Fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and/or Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese)
- Knowledge in a diverse range of styles
- Experience teaching in a public school or community music school setting
