Private Piano Music Lesson Instructor (Part Time)

About the Role

The Near North Montessori (NNM) School Private Piano Music Lesson Instructor provides students of all ages an inspiring and well-balanced music education. This position supervises assigned students and maintains a positive learning environment, both in one-on-one and small group lessons. Adapts instruction to meet the individual learning needs of all students, resulting in increased achievement. Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.

Responsibilities

• Create an inspirational environment for learning music
• Provide weekly instruction for students, both one-on-one and group lessons, for 18-week Fall and Spring semesters (Summer term work available but not required)
• Prepare students for year-end recitals by choosing appropriate pieces and ensuring advance preparation
• Ensure students learn the fundamentals of music
• Create and document thoughtful lesson plans
• Interact with parents and students regularly by being visible and accessible in the school
• Assist in overall program execution, including rehearsals and basic maintenance of musical equipment
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in music (preferably Music Education, with early childhood experience)
• 2+ years’ experience performing professionally and/or teaching music, preferably to elementary-aged children, both individually and in small groups
• Advanced understanding of music theory and technique relevant to primary instrument
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with children and adults
• Demonstrated understanding of music concepts and ability to communicate them effectively to students at all levels
• Effective time management and organizational skills to keep students on task during lessons
• Advanced understanding of a child's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development
• Very strong customer relations skills
• Maintains a professional demeanor at all times

Pay

• $32.00 per 30-minute private lesson
• $62.72 per 60-minute private lesson
• $78.75 per hour for small group or band lessons
• $36.00 per hour for other non-lesson time worked (demos, tryouts, meetings, field trips, prep work, etc.)
