Private Cloud HPC Network Engineer

Join a newly formed Private Cloud team building a greenfield on-premises private cloud platform based on OpenStack, with a strong focus on high-performance networking for HPC workloads. This role offers the opportunity to shape the network architecture, automation, security, and performance of a scalable and resilient cloud environment from the ground up. Responsibilities Design and evolve network architecture, standards, and patterns for large-scale private cloud and HPC environmentsBuild scalable leaf-spine network designs using BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, and ECMPDevelop networking solutions for compute, storage, and latency-sensitive workloadsEvaluate and support technologies such as SR-IOV, SmartNICs, DPUs, and high-performance EthernetIntegrate physical network infrastructure with OpenStack networking services, including Neutron, OVN, and ML2Define network architecture for virtual machines, bare-metal workloads, and Kubernetes platformsLead performance analysis, network optimization, vendor evaluation, and technical benchmarkingSupport network security architecture, threat modeling, and complex cross-domain troubleshooting Skills Strong experience supporting high-performance or large-scale compute environments using RoCE, RDMA, or InfiniBandHands-on knowledge of Cisco NX-OS and/or Arista EOSDeep understanding of BGP, leaf-spine design, Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, ECMP, EVPN, VXLAN, and resilience best practicesPractical experience with OpenStack network services and API-driven network automationStrong troubleshooting, observability, and performance tuning skills in HPC networking environmentsAbility to work across compute, storage, networking, and application teams to resolve complex issues Preferred Skills Linux and Kubernetes networking experienceExposure to SR-IOV and DPDKHands-on experience with Python, Ansible, and TerraformFamiliarity with SRE principles, including SLIs, SLOs, and error budgetsInterest in newer technologies such as NVMe-over-Fabrics Horizontal is committed to building an inclusive workplace where people from all backgrounds can contribute, grow, and succeed.
