Prison Based Addictions Counselor

About the role
Prison-Based Counselors (Therapists) are responsible for providing group orientation, individual intake, comprehensive assessment, mid-program assessment, and discharge planning, including aftercare recommendations, in accordance with MDOC contract requirements. They also document treatment and discharge plans, client progress, and responses to treatment, maintain related records and charts, provide evidenced-based group therapy for up to 15 offenders per group, and provide individual segregation discharges as needed/approved for offenders terminated early from substance abuse services.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with minimum of two years’ experience OR Master’s Degree and minimum of one year of experience
- Experience in substance abuse related field, with specific skills in counseling, assessment, treatment planning, and group therapy; working with offender population.
- Clinical licensure and/or Certification in State of Michigan or ability to obtain this within designated timeframe specified through the Michigan Board of Addiction Professionals (MCBAP).
- Ability to follow MDOC directives and remain flexible as needed to accommodate facility space and scheduling.
- Ability to work independently and/or with team members as available.
- Ability to receive and apply clinical supervision feedback as needed.
- Excellent attendance and punctuality to ensure consistent delivery of services.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk and move about the facilities for up to two hours at a time, to monitor and interact with clients
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to receive, retrieve, and/or audit information and data
- Ability to record, proofread and check documents and files for accuracy
- Ability to respond to telephones, and to hear and detect alarms and unusual noises
Pay
Range is between $22.00 - $30.00 per hour
Schedule
Monday through Friday from 2:00PM-10:00PM
