Duties and Responsibilities
- Change printing press plates or cylinders as required.
- Prepare, load, and feed/web base materials through the machine. Adjust feed tension controls.
- Absorb and assist to clean and maintain machinery, equipment, and work areas using hand tools and cleaning solutions to ensure proper functioning, as well as support hygiene and safe working conditions. Clean printing presses or make minor adjustments. Clean ink system, plates, cylinders, and other machine parts as necessary.
- Examine Job Work Orders to determine customer specifications, print qualities, base materials, ink requirements, or special printing instructions.
- Examine materials for defects, and to ensure conformance to specifications. Collect and inspect samples during print runs to identify necessary adjustments.
- Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
- Input production job settings into computerized workstation terminals that control automated printing system (OCS).
- Monitor automated printing system (OCS) screens for print and/or machine issues.
- Record production and operational data on specified forms and records by written or computerized communication. Accurately document and complete necessary forms, including records or quality checks and finished product.
- Assist to load material into machines and equipment or onto conveyors by hand, or using hand tools or moving devices.
- Weigh or measure materials or products to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Remove completed or defective products or materials. Place products or materials into containers.
- Notify supervisors or other personnel of production problems.
- Perform other miscellaneous job duties; department or facility tasks and related functions as needed. For example, facility wide cleaning.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- A High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment desired.
- Mechanical knowledge and/or knowledge of production and processing desired.
- Ability to demonstrate respect and open communication. Work in team-oriented environment and be flexible and self-managed in accordance with the “New Excelsior Statement.”
- Ability to follow all safety and work rules, policies, and procedures, including workplace, environmental health and safety, hygiene, etc… Maintain a clean work area.
- Basic English verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic mathematical and computer skills.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Safely operate machinery, material handling equipment, hand tools, etc. according to training and company policies and procedures. Safely operate and work on high-speed rotating equipment and large multi-level machinery.
- Work 8, 10 or 12-hour shift (dependent upon production requirements) in a primarily indoor manufacturing environment. Overtime and/or “weekend” work is required as needed. Work pace is subject to machine speed, machine issues, job deadlines, etc. Environment includes working with/around industrial chemicals including solvents for cleaning; printing inks; and food grade adhesives. Wear personal protective equipment as required. Follow hygiene standards.
- Visual color discrimination and visualization.
- Ability to work from a standing position and maneuver around equipment and to consistently lift and/or manipulate 50-75 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation.
