About the role
The Principal Workday People Tech Lead - Core HCM, Security serves as the strategic domain owner for Workday Core HCM and Security at HealthEquity. This role is responsible for the design, integrity, and long-term evolution of foundational Workday configuration, as well as protecting the operational and architectural coherence of the broader platform.
Responsibilities
- Own the long-term integrity, scalability, and maintainability of foundational Workday configuration, including worker data structures, lifecycle frameworks, business processes, and security architecture.
- Lead the design, configuration, testing, and deployment of complex foundational Workday functionality with significant cross-domain or enterprise impact.
- Evaluate and influence implementation and enhancement decisions through a long-term platform lens, proactively identifying downstream impacts, operational risks, governance concerns, and future maintenance implications.
- Ensure Core HCM and Security configuration supports clean interoperability across Payroll, Time, Talent, Recruiting, Reporting, Integrations, and TMX capabilities.
- Guide foundational organizational and worker data design decisions, including supervisory organizations, positions, worker structures, lifecycle events, and related enterprise frameworks.
- Serve as the primary technical authority for Workday security architecture, including role-based security, domain security policies, business process security, segmentation approaches, and audit considerations.
- Partner closely with IT, Identity & Access Management, Security, and integration teams to ensure alignment between Workday security architecture and broader enterprise governance standards.
- Establish and maintain governance practices that reduce configuration drift, unnecessary customization, fragmented design patterns, and long-term technical debt.
- Serve as a senior technical advisor and mentor to People Technology team members, helping elevate platform thinking, governance discipline, and architectural maturity across the function.
- Contribute to release governance, cross-domain risk evaluation, testing strategy, and platform readiness discussions as a foundational platform authority.
- Maintain strong awareness of emerging Workday capabilities, platform changes, and industry best practices to continuously strengthen foundational platform health.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Business, or a related field.
- 8+ years experience owning and evolving Workday Core HCM architecture in complex enterprise environments.
- 4+ years experience designing and governing Workday Security architecture, including role-based security, domain security policies, business process security, segmentation, and audit/compliance considerations.
- Experience partnering with executive stakeholders, implementation partners, and cross-functional enterprise teams during large-scale Workday implementations or transformations.
Specialized Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Advanced understanding of Workday Core HCM architecture, worker data structures, organizational frameworks, business process frameworks, and cross-domain dependencies.
- Deep expertise in Workday Security architecture and governance, including domain security policies, role-based access models, segregation of duties, audit readiness, and enterprise security strategy.
- Strong architectural and systems-thinking mindset, with the ability to evaluate decisions through long-term operational and platform sustainability lenses.
- Ability to identify and articulate downstream impacts, governance risks, technical debt concerns, and cross-platform implications before they become operational issues.
- Ability to influence senior leaders, implementation partners, and cross-functional stakeholders through expertise, credibility, and thoughtful platform stewardship.
- Experience balancing platform flexibility, operational usability, governance rigor, security requirements, and long-term maintainability.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, particularly in translating complex technical and architectural concepts into operationally actionable guidance.
Qualifications
- Workday Core HCM certification strongly preferred.
- Workday Security certification strongly preferred.
- Additional Workday certifications (Reporting, Integrations, Payroll, or related modules) strongly preferred.
Pay
$120,500.00 To $165,000.00 / year
