Principal Water Wastewater Consultant
About the role
Arcadis seeks a Principal Industrial Water/Wastewater Consultant to join the Industrial Water Treatment and Optimization (IWTO) team as a “seller/doer”. This heavily client-facing technical position will be key to our growth in the Mining sector in the US.
The role is split 40-50% on business development (“selling”) and 50-60% on technical execution (“doing”). As a seller, you will engage with clients, assess needs, create opportunities, and lead proposal preparation. As a doer, you will undertake conceptual and detailed process design for industrial water and wastewater treatment projects, particularly in the Mining sector, serving as a Subject Matter Expert with deep technical acumen and strong knowledge of mining operations and water relationships.
This is a hybrid work position. Client facilities and projects are located throughout the US, with some international assignments. Preferred locations include Denver, Reno, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Missoula, Houston, Dallas, Raleigh, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Tampa, and Philadelphia; other locations may also be considered.
Responsibilities
- Lead business development activities to increase project wins and develop long-lasting client relationships in the Mining sector.
- Routinely engage with your client network to assess opportunities, including strategic positioning, leading pursuits, proposal development, client meetings, and solution determination.
- Participate in client interviews, collaborate with Arcadis’ regional, national, and global client account teams, and support expansion of business development opportunities.
- Prepare abstracts and technical papers.
- Serve as a Mining Sector wastewater treatment subject matter expert, supporting the development of the Industrial Water process team within the sector.
- Teach and mentor staff on mining operations, wastewater issues, and treatment within the Mining sector.
- Lead projects and clients in the planning, design, and construction of industrial water/wastewater treatment plants and wastewater recycle plants.
- Coordinate multi-disciplined engineering teams and serve as Subject Matter Expert for complex engineering designs.
- Provide direction and review for design basis documents, engineering calculations (mass and energy balances), engineering drawings (P&IDs and Layout), specifications for treatment equipment, instrumentation, and controls, and engineering reports and feasibility studies.
- Manage technical coordination and leadership roles on larger or complex projects with higher associated risk.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study preferred.
- 20+ years of industrial water/wastewater treatment experience.
- Prior roles across engineering, project management, sustainability, sales, marketing, and mining.
- Knowledge and experience with industrial clients in North America, particularly those in the Mining sector.
- Strong experience in developing and leading large industrial wastewater capital projects.
- Strong experience and network within the Mining sector.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer License.
- Knowledge and experience with multinational industrial clients.
- Previous experience in a regional or national role and collaboration across regional teams.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $136,400 - $204,600. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
