Principal Test Systems Engineer (onsite Tucson, AZ)
Location: Tucson, AZ (100% onsite)
Active and transferable U.S. government issued DoD Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. Ability to obtain interim clearance is required.
About the role
As a Principal Systems Engineer in the Test Solutions Engineering (TSE) organization, you will coordinate across all engineering teams to define, design, and document Test Environment capabilities and requirements. You will be a systems thinker with in-depth knowledge of development, production, User Operations, and embedded test processes and practices. This role requires expertise in testing prime hardware at every level—from component to All-Up-Round—to ensure robustness and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Apply subsystem knowledge and collaborate with other engineering disciplines to develop and implement subsystem models using Model Based System Engineering tools and methods.
- Detail capabilities and derive requirements, communicating test equipment needs to Test Equipment designers.
- Manage requirements and traceability, leveraging reuse of Test Environment requirements and models to promote efficiency in test design and development.
- Develop subsystem requirements, interfaces, behaviors, and architecture.
- Interact with Technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to fully understand subsystems, identify and resolve issues, and support related subsystem trades or analysis.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of eight (8) years of directly related engineering experience (or a STEM Master’s degree with 6 years of related experience).
- Experience in Systems Engineering or another engineering discipline, with emphasis on test requirements development, test methodologies, test requirements documents, integration, verification, and/or validation for test.
- Experience developing, decomposing, and/or managing system requirements across a product lifecycle, such as design and transition to production.
- Experience with test-related activities throughout the product lifecycle.
- Experience with Model Based Engineering processes, techniques, and tools (e.g., Rhapsody, IBM Rational Model Manager, Cameo Systems Modeler, Enterprise Architect, Teamwork Cloud). Proficiency in Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and/or Unified Modeling Language (UML).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with embedded test techniques, design for test, design margin analysis, and/or design for manufacturing.
- Experience with Agile processes and techniques.
- Experience with Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS).
- Problem-solving and debugging experience.
- Ability to recognize areas of improvement or customer needs and relay them to senior staff as business development opportunities.
- Demonstrated sense of urgency, prudent risk-taking, and adaptive response to challenges.
- Depending on experience level, ability to provide mentoring and guidance to other team members.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $107,500 – $204,500 USD. The range is representative of all experience levels and considers factors such as role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
