Principal Technical Consultant, Ecologist

Responsibilities
- Coordinate environmental investigations of surface water, sediments, and wetlands, ensuring compliance with NJDEP regulations.
- Lead project teams in preparing technical documents, including Ecological Evaluations and Remedial Investigation Reports.
- Oversee riparian and wetland restoration projects under NJDEP and Natural Resource Trustees.
- Support ecological risk assessments through data interpretation and collaboration with risk assessors.
- Manage land use and wetlands permitting efforts under NJDEP programs.
- Maintain strong client and agency relationships while delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Additional duties may include natural resource surveys, biological monitoring, field team management, and specialized site assessments.
Requirements
- BS or MS in biology, wetland science, plant ecology, or a related field—or equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of consulting experience (8+ preferred) in ecological evaluations, QA/QC, technical writing, and multi-media permitting.
- Deep knowledge of biological and wetland ecology impact assessment and management issues across industry sectors.
- Familiarity with state and federal environmental regulations; NJDEP experience strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and maintain integrity and professionalism.
Preferred
- Experience with NJDEP’s Bureau of Environmental Radiation (BER).
- Established reputation with regulators and recognized technical expertise in ecological assessment approvals.
- Positive, collaborative mindset with a drive for ERM’s global success.
Pay
The anticipated annual base pay for this role is $122,612 – $140,354 (USD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range.
