About the role

Your mission as a Principal Tax Advisor is to serve as the ultimate tax authority for our ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients and enterprise business owners. You will lead a department that proactively engineers dynamic systems to mitigate tax friction across pre-sale business transitions, complex equity compensation, and multi-generational wealth transfers, ensuring our clients’ legacies are permanently protected.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute highly sophisticated tax-mitigation strategies tailored for massive liquidity events, advanced corporate structuring, and post-liquidity wealth preservation.
  • Serve as the definitive tax authority during joint strategic meetings with Acorn’s principal wealth managers and estate attorneys to ensure plan alignment.
  • Actively participate in the acquisition of UHNW clients by presenting compelling, high-alpha tax strategies to prospective families and large enterprise owners.
  • Mentor senior and junior staff, implementing scalable, tech-enabled tax-review systems that multiply the firm's capacity to service high-AUM clients.

Requirements

  • You build with the long game in mind: You engineer 10 and 20 year tax mitigation strategies that adapt seamlessly as federal and state legislative landscapes shift, focusing on fundamentals that compound over decades.
  • You hold an uncompromising standard of precision: Excellence isn't optional. You take ownership of complex entity structures and set a standard of performance that pulls the entire advisory team forward.
  • You lead with sincere candor: When a proposed investment or trust structure is tax-inefficient, you address it directly. You leverage your fiduciary duty and supreme technical expertise to guide the team toward the optimal outcome.
  • You win together: You naturally reject siloed work and thrive in joint strategic environments, sharing credit and playing to win as one cohesive interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • A CPA or JD with extensive experience in tax planning and compliance, particularly in complex corporate and individual tax matters.
  • Proven track record of success in leading tax departments and managing high-stakes engagements.
  • Experience in advising on and implementing sophisticated tax strategies for high-net-worth individuals and enterprises.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and legal professionals.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Passion for tax law and a commitment to staying current with legislative changes.

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience in corporate and individual tax planning and compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
