The Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SETC) organization is hiring a Principal Systems Engineer to join our Tucson, AZ location. SETC is an exciting and challenging environment where you will design, develop, and partner with multi-disciplinary teams to shape innovative solutions for our customers. This role is 100% onsite at our Tucson, AZ campus with occasional travel possible.

Active and transferable U.S. government-issued Top Secret security clearance is required on day one. U.S. citizenship is mandatory, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

About the role

As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will support missile programs as a Software-focused Responsible Systems Engineer, contributing directly to software requirements and integration for both fielded and development missile systems. This includes managing system and subsystem requirements, providing technical oversight during integration and test, participating in verification and validation, and offering expertise in troubleshooting and failure investigations. The role requires high technical proficiency in embedded software design, integration, and test, along with multi-disciplinary coordination and customer engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain system and subsystem-level requirements specifications for embedded software, configurable logic, and/or test systems software.
  • Model the system and development/production processes using Cameo.
  • Conduct trade studies and present results to customers.
  • Serve as a technical contributor for verification and validation, ensuring all requirements are assessed.
  • Work closely with Systems, Software, Configurable Logic, and Test teams on program technical tasks.
  • Participate in technical conversations with the customer.
  • Become a knowledgeable and "go-to" Systems Engineer for software-centric program capabilities.
  • Onboard, mentor, and guide new team members using core Systems Engineering skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) with a minimum of 8 years of prior engineering experience.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering.
  • Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Requirements Development, Requirements Management, Requirements Verification, or Integration and Test for software products.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Math, or Physics.
  • Experience using Agile framework development methods/processes.
  • Experience with Agile, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and/or Digital Engineering.
  • Experience presenting analytical and technical presentations.
  • Experience evaluating and mitigating technical risks.
  • Self-starter who can take on tasks with limited guidance.
  • Customer focus and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with performance analysis.
  • Experience with DOORS and/or cPDM.
  • Experience using Azure DevOps methods/tools.
  • Experience with Matlab, C, C#, C++, Python.
  • Ability to perform trade studies to optimize system performance.
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering Product Development Cycle.
  • Familiarity with system safety, reliability, and configuration management.
  • Experience working in an integration lab, test facility, or in the field supporting integration and/or verification.
  • Experience evaluating systems using simulated environments.
  • Experience generating technical documentation such as trade studies, test plans, procedures, or technical reports.
  • Experience in integration with test equipment, telemetry data analysis tools, and missile systems host platforms.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $107,500 – $204,500 USD. The range is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
