About the Role

As a Principal Systems Engineer in the R&D organization, you will be a key contributor to the next generation robotic platform transforming healthcare. This highly visible technical role involves architecting complex robotics systems—from requirement establishment and test approach to tool selection and traceability matrices—in close collaboration with Software, Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Supply Chain & Manufacturing, and other functions. Your main objective is ensuring complete requirements coverage with a harmonized test plan for all levels of testing.

The initial phase focuses on supporting the successful exit of the V&V phase, followed by design transfer and product launch. You will lead system integration and test processes, define optimal requirement layers, specify verification approaches, support test tool development, and create test protocols to pave the way for successful system development and launch.

Responsibilities

• Leads the design of system integration and test approaches from components, PCBAs, subassemblies, assemblies, and subsystems to the system level, with a focus on software and controls.
• Derives strategies to detect issues and faults at the appropriate levels of assemblies.
• Works closely with cross-functional teams to generate/refine requirements at optimal integration levels.
• Develops strategies for system diagnostics and performance monitoring matrices.
• Authors/co-authors documents such as integration and test architecture/plans, test protocols, test methods, test reports, analyses, and system documentation.
• Supports multi-disciplinary technical and process improvement projects of varying sizes and scopes.
• Establishes traceability matrices for all levels of requirements.
• Communicates information clearly, effectively, and frequently (oral and written) with stakeholders and project teams.
• Manages and delivers assigned projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams within agreed timelines.
• May mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Minimum of 12 years’ electromechanical R&D engineering experience, preferably in the medical device industry; experience in other heavily regulated industries may be considered.
• Master’s degree in Software, Controls, Mechatronics, Electrical, Robotics, or a closely related field (exceptional undergraduate candidates may be considered).
• Outstanding documentation and communication skills.
• Experience managing complex engineering projects.
• Previous experience launching complex electromechanical systems.
• Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink; LabVIEW proficiency desired.
• Strong technical and analytical abilities, including DOE, FMEA, and statistical analysis.
• Proficiency in design control procedures.
• Working knowledge of medical device regulatory standards (e.g., FDA 21CFR 820, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, ISO 14971) is desired.
• Ability to execute multiple projects with minimal supervision.
• Self-starter with strong leadership skills and deep technical competencies.

Pay

The base pay range for this position is $165,490 - $227,546. Factors affecting starting pay include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and qualifications. If commission-eligible, compensation will align with the Company’s plan and be based on individual and/or company performance.
