Principal / Sr Principal Technical Editor & Writer

Primary Responsibilities

• Write, rewrite and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications.
• Communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences through effective and concise technical writing.
• Acquire system knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.
• Oversee preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts required within technical and operations manuals.
• Develop, update, and integrate remove and replace procedures within technical orders and maintenance manuals.
• Provide technical writing/editing for technical data, ensuring file configuration control, and compliance against contract requirements.
• Conduct quality review of materials developed by other technical editors on the team.

Basic Qualifications

• Must have an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope.
• Principal Level: 5 Years with Bachelors; 3 Years with Masters; 1 Year with PhD. 4 additional years of experience required in lieu of a degree.
• Sr Principal Level: 8 Years with Bachelors; 6 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD. 4 additional years of experience required in lieu of a degree.
• Able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and system description documents.
• Experience with developing products IAW MIL-STD 40051-1 and 40051-2.
• Strong writing and editing skills, and experience in manipulating grammar.
• Experience in querying authors for clarity and compliance purposes and must be skilled in Microsoft Word, MS excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience in utilizing the Maintenance Manual change process.
• Experience writing in XML/S1000D International Specification for Technical Publications/IETM/Data Module writing (Arbortext, EAGLE, XMetal, or similar program).
• Experience in an electronic/avionic field or in a Department of Defense (DoD) maintenance background.
• Familiar with developing products IAW MIL-STD 38784B.
• Experience with AGILE, SCRUM, DevOps.
• Previous experience developing manuals on complex ground systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experienced in creating multi-configuration, multi-effectivity indentured parts lists from engineering and LSA data.
• Experienced with Isometric IPB graphics and layout.
• Experienced in creating and revising IPB’s using MIL-DTL-38807 or MIL-PRF-38807.
• Experienced with AGILE, SCRUM, DevOps.
• Previous experience developing manuals on complex ground systems.

Pay

• Primary Level Salary Range: $77,800.00 - $116,800.00
• Secondary Level Salary Range: $97,100.00 - $145,700.00
