About the role
The Principal Mechanical Engineer/Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer position is within Northrop Grumman's Strategic Deterrent Systems Division. The role focuses on developing and reviewing Environmental Control System hardware requirements, specifications, designs, trade studies, and analyses for the Sentinel Program.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders to decompose technical requirements, develop complete and verifiable requirements, and conduct trade studies
- Generate and update specifications as part of a Systems Engineering framework for the purpose of releasing to suppliers and supporting the procurement process
- Develop design and analysis artifacts to support design reviews, customer deliverables, and hardware procurement workflows
- Perform heating and cooling calculations to size HVAC equipment
- Select appropriate HVAC equipment to meet size and system requirements
- Review and provide comments to supplier-submitted drawings and contractual deliveries
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years (level 3) or 8 years (level 4) of relevant experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
- Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Programs (SAP) clearance
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools - PowerPoint, Excel, Word
- Experience with Environmental Control Systems (ECS) and Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning (HVAC) system design and verification
- Experience with Carrier HAP, NX, Autodesk Revit, and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software
- Familiarity with Systems Engineering and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) processes
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience with estimation, bidding, proposals, or RFPs
- Experience with PDP (Product Definition Packages) creation
- Working knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) and plant controls
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field
- Ability to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
Skills
- Experience with Environmental Control Systems (ECS) and Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning (HVAC) system design and verification
- Carrier HAP, NX, Autodesk Revit, and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software proficiency
- Familiarity with Systems Engineering and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) processes
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience with estimation, bidding, proposals, or RFPs
- Experience with PDP (Product Definition Packages) creation

Pay
The starting salary range for this position is $89,400.00 - $134,200.00 for the Basic Level and $111,700.00 - $167,500.00 for the Secondary Level. Overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus may also be available.
Schedule
The standard work schedule is a 9/80. This means employees work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday and take every other Friday off.
