Principal Solutions Architect
About the role
Serves as Matrix's senior technical leader for the design, development, modernization, and sustainment of secure digital solutions. Leads development teams while remaining hands-on with solution architecture and complex delivery challenges. Translates client needs into scalable solutions, establishes development standards, and delivers high-quality products on time and within budget for commercial and federal clients, including the Department of War.
Responsibilities
- Support continuous process improvement and business process reengineering projects through process mapping; data collection, analysis, & visualization; and development of digital solutions
- Support proposal development by providing content for the approach, schedule, or other sections as assigned in accordance with the request for proposal or request for qualifications
- Support project execution, including budgeting, scheduling, organizing teams, prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines, quality assurance, invoicing, preparing reports, developing technical documents and presentations, and contributing to other project deliverables
- Meet with clients and their representatives, individually or as part of a team, to present results, resolve issues, answer questions, and maintain strong relationships
- Plan, organize, and facilitate virtual and in-person engagements with project stakeholders focused on visioning, brainstorming, and solving complex challenges
Technical Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain Matrix's enterprise technical vision, application governance, development standards, reference architectures, and platform lifecycle management across the digital-solutions portfolio
- Lead the full secure software development lifecycle for multiple concurrent efforts, from discovery, requirements, and architecture through design, development, testing, deployment, documentation, sustainment, and retirement, using Agile Scrum and Kanban practices
- Architect secure, scalable enterprise solutions supporting more than 100 users and multiple business functions, translating requirements into portals, automated workflows, custom applications and forms, dashboards, resource-management tools, and other process-improvement solutions
- Direct cloud-native application development, integration, data architecture, and DevSecOps across Microsoft Azure and related enterprise platforms while remaining hands-on with complex architecture, code, and delivery challenges
- Govern low-code, collaboration, analytics, and decision-support solutions across Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint Online, Power BI, Palantir, and Atlassian Jira and Confluence, ensuring interoperability, supportability, reuse, and modernization of legacy environments
- Establish data architecture and integration patterns for SQL Server, REST APIs, and connected systems, with reliable data structures, metadata, governance, and protection of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI)
- Embed cybersecurity throughout delivery by enforcing a secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC), conducting application security reviews, applying Zero Trust and identity and access management principles, and meeting applicable NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, FedRAMP, and DFARS 252.204-7012 requirements
- Evaluate and implement AI-assisted development tools and lead the development of secure AI-enabled business solutions within approved governance, security, and data-protection boundaries
- Evaluate modernization opportunities and develop technical approaches, roadmaps, statements of work, estimates, schedules, and supporting technical documentation
- Build, mentor, and support development teams and communities of practice; provide architecture and code reviews, troubleshooting, training, and product guidance while promoting reusable solutions and knowledge sharing
Desired Competencies
- Demonstrated technical leadership and the ability to recruit, mentor, and motivate software-development professionals
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD pipeline development, and application development using C#, .NET, React, TypeScript, and Python
- Expertise in modern application-development frameworks, integration patterns, APIs, front-end and back-end development technologies, and cloud-native architectures
- Strong experience with SQL Server, enterprise data architecture, REST APIs, systems integration, data governance, and reliable decision-support data structures
- Experience delivering Microsoft Power Platform solutions using Power Apps, Power Automate, and Copilot Studio, together with advanced SharePoint Online and Power BI solutions
- Experience designing operational applications, dashboards, integrations, and decision-support workflows using Palantir Foundry/AIP, Atlassian Jira and Confluence, or comparable enterprise platforms
- Demonstrated experience designing enterprise architecture solutions supporting more than 100 users and multiple business functions, including establishing application governance, development standards, and platform lifecycle management
- Ability to apply SSDLC, application security review, Zero Trust, identity and access management, and CUI-protection practices in environments governed by NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, FedRAMP, and DFARS 252.204-7012
- Experience evaluating AI-assisted development tools and developing secure AI-enabled business solutions
- Proficiency with Agile delivery methods, including Scrum and Kanban, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into practical solutions and communicate effectively with technical teams, clients, senior leaders, and end users
- Strong facilitation, organizational management, technical writing, and presentation skills, with the ability and willingness to travel to project sites and other Matrix offices
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides technical direction and day-to-day leadership to developers and multidisciplinary delivery teams. Supervisory duties may include recruiting, workload allocation, mentoring, performance input, and direct supervision as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related field of study
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible software or application-development experience, including technical leadership of development teams and delivery from requirements and architecture through deployment and sustainment
- Experience working with or for the Department of War or another federal agency
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance; a current Secret clearance is preferred
- Valid driver's license, in conjunction with successfully passing the Company's MVR screening

- Microsoft Certified credentials such as Power Platform Solution Architect, Power Platform Developer, Azure Solutions Architect, or Azure Developer Associate
- Project and Agile credentials such as PMP, PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, or SAFe Agilist

Pay
Salary Range: $160,000 to $170,000 annually. Salary will be dependent upon experience.
